…’What if a place got so scary that we had to run away? Hold my hand and count to ten – Together we’ll make it better again! ‘ โ€˜Hello! A Counting Book of Kindnesses’ Written by @holliskurman_writer Illustrated by @barrouxillustrations Published by @otterbarrybooks This book pulled at my heart strings.. When you are forced to flee your country, your home, with just a little backpack- what would you take? The emotions around the weighty subject of refugee children is simply communicated through counting the acts of kindnesses. Full of empathy and hope in distressing times,@holliskurman_writer shows the journey of a family with young children escaping from a dangerous country. The kindness shown along the way is humbling yet powerful. Bold illustrations by @barrouxillustrations adds calmness ….we loved spotting the bird throughout the book !! Unusual and very original, this 1-10 counting book celebrates cultural diversity and gently explores migration, refuge and inclusivity. Hello! is a visual learning tool for young readers as well as a gentle reminder of how powerful one small gesture of kindness can be. We really enjoyed the comprehensive activities, reading and extras at: https://holliskurman.com/childrens-writer/hello-counting-kindness/readings-activities-extras/ Check out my stories to see what the kids packed in their ‘little red backpack’ !! โ™ฅ10% of author royalties will be donated to Amnesty International UK Section to support human rights including those of child refugees. โ™ฅ
